This woman has rewritten her life as a 34 yr old adult who had drinking/ drug addictions in her past. She has been clean and sober for 3 years now and is a very positive, engaged woman excited about her future career in the hospitality arena. She is going to school for the business end of running a resort/ hotel/ restaurant and has been doing very well in school for over a year now. She had to move from Sandpoint to Post Falls to save money and now works at a restaurant and continues going to school full time at NIC. It’s been a struggle with gas prices and having to get another car after hers was totaled in an accident. It was the other person’s fault so she was covered for her ER visit and a replacement car, but there were still unexpected expenses as she missed hours at work until she had recovered physically from internal bruising from her seatbelt and a concussion. This put her behind on some expenses even though she lives very frugally. She has very little family/ friends support in her life as she has had to remove herself from almost everyone on her road to recovery and sobriety. Her caseworker feels she will be a wonderful asset to our community in a couple years. We would love to help her continue moving forward by providing some gas cards to help her get to work and school.

An elderly woman who lives in a remote, off-grid area about 25 miles out of town needs help fixing her car. She is on a strict SSDI income and relies entirely on her car for basic survival—getting groceries, hauling drinking water, and making it to medical appointments. Right now, she is completely stranded without a working vehicle. She bought the car about a year ago to help maintain her independence. Unfortunately, an acquaintance recently borrowed it and got into a crash. The damage wasn't covered by insurance, leaving the car completely undrivable. Because she lives on a fixed SSDI budget, she is able to manage her day-to-day living expenses, but she simply doesn't have the savings to cover a large, unexpected repair bill. This car is a true lifeline for her. Out where she lives, there is no public transit and she doesn't have any family or friends nearby who can give her a ride. Without a working car, she has already been forced to cancel important specialized medical appointments down in Coeur d'Alene, and she is struggling to get basic necessities like potable water. We recently had a mobile mechanic go out to look at the vehicle, and they estimated the repairs will cost $700 for parts and $400 for labor. He is willing to negotiate labor costs due to her situation, but the parts need to be purchased upfront before he can do anything. Helping to cover this $1,100~ repair would immediately resolve a major health and safety crisis for her. Getting her car safely back on the road will allow her to reschedule her medical care, haul her water, and remain living independently. Her resource specialist is also reaching out to other organizations for assistance, so we’re hoping to work together to meet this need.

A single mother residing in the Oldtown area, where local financial resources are very limited, needs help securing stable housing. She has escaped domestic abuse in the past and is currently living alone with her children. However, her landlord issued a lease non-renewal, so she is facing an unexpected, urgent relocation, and needs help paying the deposit on a new apartment to avoid homelessness. She is actively reaching out to multiple resources, including 211 and local partners, to piece together enough move-in funding, but only $400 is guaranteed so far of the total $2,200. She is a hardworking single mother trying to make ends meet. She works full-time and takes on side cleaning jobs for extra income. Despite working consistently, balancing regular living expenses on a single income has left her without enough upfront savings to cover a full deposit on short notice. Her new lease will accommodate her brother as a roommate starting in December, splitting rent and utilities moving forward, which will drastically lower her monthly expenses and ensure long-term sustainability. Because she is coordinating with multiple agencies to cover total move-in costs, any contribution toward her deposit will help keep her family housed.
