This woman is a devoted North Idaho local with a lifelong heart for Christian ministry and service. Prior to her sudden medical crisis, she lived an active life on a homestead caring for livestock and serving women escaping human trafficking. Most recently, she was welcomed by a local family to serve as a resident mentor and "adopted grandmother" for a non-profit ministry home supporting young women through unexpected pregnancies. In October 2024, she experienced a sudden viral spinal attack, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Despite this life-altering diagnosis, she approaches her recovery with immense faith, perseverance, and daily discipline. Through targeted physical therapy, she is actively regaining nerve and muscle function. A vital component of her recovery is aqua therapy. Walking in the water allows her to activate dormant leg muscles, prevent muscle degradation, build balance, and restore her physical confidence. Medically and emotionally, aqua therapy is essential to her long-term mobility. However, her Medicare strictly prohibits dual coverage for two separate physical therapy providers at the same time, and because she has to go to two separate facilities due to their accommodations and equipment, she is going to eventually lose access to aqua therapy. While the aqua therapy provider has graciously allowed her 10 free sessions, this will run out. She is currently applying for disability benefits, which will allow her to afford these more long-term, but it will take time. Currently, she lives on a very limited fixed income and cannot afford out-of-pocket payments to maintain these sessions once the free period ends. Without community help, she will be forced to discontinue aqua therapy, risking further physical degradation and loss of the mobility gains she has worked so hard to achieve. Sponsoring her pool sessions will bridge this critical insurance gap and keep her recovery moving forward while she waits for her disability benefits to be approved.

This woman, age 83, has lived in Sagle for nearly 28 years. She recently experienced the devastating loss of her husband, who passed away in April. Since his passing, she has faced an overwhelming series of financial and personal hardships. Before her husband's death, he received approximately $2,000 per month in SSI, in addition to VA benefits. Those benefits stopped after his death. She has reapplied for the VA surviving-spouse benefits and for the SSI benefits her husband had been receiving. At this time, she is only receiving around $1,000 per month. With the loss of her husband's income and benefits, she has lost her vehicle and has now lost her home. After nearly three decades in the community she called home, she is being forced to leave Sagle and start over in a new state. She will be moving to Indiana, where she will temporarily live with her niece. Her nephew is coming to Idaho to help her make the move, and she needs to relocate by September 9, 2026. She has very limited resources and is trying to take what few belongings she can with her. Her immediate needs include approximately $500 for a rental truck to move her belongings and approximately $500 for a bed set so she will have a place to sleep when she arrives at her new home. Her church has already provided some financial assistance to help her through this difficult transition. She is also working to rehome her two cats as she prepares for the move. She has experienced an extraordinary amount of loss in a very short period of time. She has lost her husband, her financial security, her vehicle, and her home, and is now leaving the community where she has lived for nearly 30 years. At 83 years old, she is facing the difficult task of starting over in a new state while waiting to learn whether her VA and SSI benefits will be restored.
